Manchester Arena Bombing After Concert Poem by Practicing Poetess

Manchester Arena Bombing After Concert

Rating: 5.0

I cried myself to sleep last night
For Manchester
The death toll rose to 22,
The injured to 59
Olivia Campbell's still not been found,
Though they found her friend Adam in hospital.
The dead were someone's children.
One was as young as eight.
Lives senselessly cut short
Justin Welby called Manchester 'heroic'.
I'm not even there,
But these tears are burningly real.
Thank you for the bravery we see.
Thank you for the compassion we see.
Evil will never triumph over good.
The two homeless heroes
Who stopped to help the wounded
Are proof of that.

You paint a picture in words of just what a horrible tragedy the Manchester Arena Bombing was. A high death toll and injuries but also touches of heroism. A compassionate elegy.

Thanx, Michael! That's what we poets try to do- - to paint pictures using words. Why is it that so often it takes a tragedy to bring out the best in human nature? That's when we all seem to rally together, put differences aside, and unite in love!

Thank you, Rebecca. Sometimes the best way to process our emotions is to get them down on paper, right? We poets are lucky to have that ability and outlet, for internalizing negative emotions can make you physically sick.

Very well written. When I look back on all the poems we have written in reaction to terrorism, it makes me feel sick. This one reminds me of what I wrote after Sandy Hook, Children Should not Die.

I've been crying on and off for the past 2 days. So many of the people who were missing and unaccounted for, are now definitely confirmed as deceased. This was not an act of self-defense; it was a senseless slaughter of innocents. We should die for a cause- - not die having a fun night out at a concert! Now, I shall have to read yours. Thank you, Barry, for understanding. I don't feel so alone now.

Thank you, Geoffrey. What a tender heart you must possess! I've been living off of watching live updates on the Guardian for the past 3 days. The helpful homeless heroes renewed our faith in humanity! Are you REALLY a dust swallower? :)
