Man's Best Friend Poem by Christopher G. Turner

Man's Best Friend

To me, a dog was always man's best friend
Till one day, my eyes shifted to another
I met a girl who loved another creature
This love to me, was not like me at all

The girl had found a new best friend
This friend, had always been so strange
Of these creatures, she wanted twelve
I would ask, why twelve of these?

She would reply, anything less than
twelve isn't enough. And thirteen
is just too many, and unlucky as well
I gave her a cat, whom she had wanted

Soon after this, she found out something
about the cat. It's personality became
more like itself when it became alone
with no one but the girl to love it

Over time, this love for a cat grew
on me more and more. Till one day
I had my own love for a cat. Now,
this cat, is my new best friend
