Magical Necessities Poem by W.I. Stoneberger

Magical Necessities

Rating: 5.0

Need a different color of smoke
Need a roadtrip in a red corvette
Need a nightswim in the Atlantic
Need a new outlook on sobriety
Need a blue moon weekend

The wizard within is stirring again
velvet flaps like bat wings
in the back chambers of the brain
dreams come dosed in opiates
and other potions
they sweat remembrance
onto the brocade pillows
mornings manifest like an alchemist's secrets
almost pure gold

Need a change of scenery
Need a slow boat ride
Need a dance beside an old jukebox
Need a bottle of cheap red wine
Need an all-nighter with a good friend

The owl turned his head 135 degrees
and looked at me
a wink in his eye like a dare
gray smoke rose from ice from snow
like dragon's breath
like fog on the lake of Avalon
a crow split his tongue and spoke
his words were rough and wise
runes on sandstone

Need a long walk in the woods
Need a young man's dream
Need a lover to lay me down in the tall grass
Need a spell to ward off the approaching apocalypse
Need a poem that'll melt on my tongue.
