Magi Without Gps Poem by gershon hepner

Magi Without Gps

The Magi, without GPS,
found Jesus in a stable,
but simple men are forced have to guess
the route they take, unable
to find their way unless they ask,
which only women do,
for all real men just love to bask
in ignorance. Do you?

Neither rabbi nor a sage, I
don’t follow yonder star
unlike the Bible’s famous Magi,
but, driving in my car,
take my instructions from my wife,
above all rubies gem
and map. With her I plot my life
beyond old Bethlehem.

Inspired by a cartoon by Signe Wilkinson in the LA Times on December 24,2009, reproduced from the Philadelphia Daily News. The cartoon shows camel-riding gentlemen who follow a huge star. The bubble that comes from the mouth of the crowned leader states: “We’re OK. We’ve got On Star.”
