Lumps Of Coal Poem by Talile Ali

Lumps Of Coal

So, we need to spend some money
Although we're damn near broke
Another grifting occasion
To empty out our poke

With advertiser's filling
The airwaves with these scenes
Of people gifting items
From their store's, it's obscene

And after buying brik- a-brak
For all of those we love
We bump our obligations
What could we be thinking of

Why do we feel so guilty
Why do we feel such shame
Until we comply and buy things
It's such an evil game

For people who know we love them
They've never made these request
For us to go out shopping
And contribute to this sad mess

Retailers, we send you notice
We're done with all this guilt
These holidays made to rob us
Enriching your conniving ilk

So from now on we will just send
With all our heart and soul
That love that is so precious
Instead of your lumps of coal
