Love Sonnet 215: 'I Know Not What The Coming Future Brings'

I know not what the coming future brings,
I hold no reins of destiny in hand,
But know that all the songs my heart now sings,
Will go on just for you while yet I stand;
No thunder, loud, will mute their lilting notes,
No rain will damp their joys, or dull their mood,
No single tune will play what pain connotes,
Or stop mid-ocean, or where mountains stood;
And yet all these could vanish if need be,
And leave behind no charred remains or shard,
Oblivion sets if slow but thoroughly,
Amid the failing faith and disregard;
.... The future comes as destiny fulfilled,
.... While acts of man are by intent or willed.
