Love's Disillusionings Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Love's Disillusionings

Some say
Love comes naturally
but I
differ there;
Love's a Learned Thing
not easily absorbed
and learning
is had
through Failed Loves' Disillusionings.

Immature Loves' Passing
is such that we
arrive to Love's Maturities
Aware
of the Genuine Thing
when it Rushes to Our Door-
past experiences
give us the assurances
that This Love
is the real thing.

We will succeed then
only, and if only
we have learned, Not-Love's Lessons
which are many indeed,
stronger because
Failed Experiences
allow us to initiate
and sustain
True Love's Beckonings.

If not we succumb
even in the face of True Love
to Love's Disillusionments
and arrive
at some Bitter Harbor
inadequate to True Love's Challenges
blaming our selves,
our Erstwhile Lover;
Bad Luck
or
or Dark Circumstances.

No.
we don't fall in love
we
in fact
prepare for love
or fail to prepare for love
having taken the class
but not having learned its lessons.

Take these lessons to Love's Pinnacle
and be Ready Made
by being
already
the Loving Being.
