Love Me When I'M Grumpy Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Love Me When I'M Grumpy

Love me when I’m grumpy.
Love me when I’m curt.
Love me when I’m frustrated.
Love me when I’m hurt.

Love me when I’m taciturn.
Love me when I’m prickly.
Love me when I’m cantankerous.
Love me when I’m tricky.

Love me when anyone else would run.
And like the moon I will follow you
In all my shapes, in all my shades,
I will shine on you as white as night.

Love me as I am,
Though not even I
Know what that is,
Or was or will be.

I only know that like the tides
You pull me towards you.
Even as I hide in my own light
You hold me in your orbit.

You anchor me to this world
As I glide elliptically through the sky
Yearning for release
And yet unwilling to let go
Of your love.
