Love Costs A Thing Poem by Pen Anthony

Love Costs A Thing

Forget anything you've read
Anything you've heard too
Close your eyes
Now think

That first time you fell in love
The first time you thought it was love
The first time you declared it to be love
The first time it turned out to be love

Now remember how hurt you were
When they called it quits
Saying they no longer felt the same
When the glow in their eyes faded

When you felt your heart bleed
When you went to bed with nothing
But the debris of a heartbreak
When every memory was like a
Knife to the heart

Though sublime
Love is as bitter
As it is sweet
