Love And Sorrow... Poem by Rey Sanidad

Love And Sorrow...

Rating: 3.5

Ah women, fresher than the first green leaf
With which the fearful springtide flecks the meadow,
Weep not, that I said to you
That you have half my heart, for bitter grief
Do not hold the other half in sovereignty.

You are my heart's sun in love's mirror:
Yet on both sides at once you can not shine:
You are the bright side of my heart, and you
My heart's day, but the shadow of my heart,
Issue of its own substance, my heart's night
You can not lighten even with your light,
All powerful in beauty as you are.

If my heart was broken,
Then might your light pass through to the other side,
So swiftly, that they nowhere would abide,
But lose themselves in utter emptiness.
Half-light, half-shadow, let my spirit sleep
They who never learnt to love, never knew how to weep.
