Loose Poem by Shelby Barker

Loose

She’d used to test waters
with all ten toes weary
Of love, because it sought her
stiff bones on days dreary
Until a boat was built for her
Simple and pretty as sin
She’d stared at her reflection, blurred
Until curiosity dampened her skin
And she crept on, so
finding smiles and brightened eyes
as the water veined to rainbow
and there was no color Goodbye
The horizon lengthened
Each day she started seeing
instead of looking, and her vision strengthened
as her heart and she saw infinity
Then with no need to protect
Against eyedropper acrylic hail
In Earth and love she saw depth before death
And she took running sail
