Longfellow Poem by Francis Duggan

Longfellow

Longfellow the master wordsmith his poems are living today
Hiawatha and the Village Blacksmith with words he did have a way
Just two of the great poems he has penned to his credit many more
poems that will be read for centuries even far from his Homeland shore.

Longfellow known all around the World far beyond the U S of A
Great poets belong to all Nations and of him 'twould be fair to say
That he was a poet of the people he is up there with the best
Poets of poetry's glorious era his poems have stood the time test.

He wrote in everyday language his poems a child can understand
He was a poet for all ages renowned beyond his Homeland
He was a natural wordsmith poets are born not made
He was a major literary figure one of the greats of his trade.

Longfellow the poet of the people writers of his standing are rare
In poetry's glorious era few with him can hope to compare
In Hiawatha he brought to the World the culture of America's first race
And amongst the literary greats of the World he still commands a high place.
