Long Journey Home Poem by Carolyn Brunelle

Long Journey Home

Rating: 4.0

She pretends to know me
but doesn’t really care.
The blankness in her eyes
tells me
who she was
is no longer there;
the light within her
diminished to a flicker.

On her long journey home;
she grows frail and sick,
withdrawing
more and more
into her own little world.

She just stares now
out the window
to a world
she no longer knows
while the child
within
leads her
to a place
only
she
can
go.

This poem brought a tear to my eyes...and many to my heart...as i look at my mothers journey...
