Loneliness Takes My Hand; Poem by Tiffani Williams

Loneliness Takes My Hand;

and I fall hostage to my emotions again,
it’s grip grows tighter upon the beating of my heart,
and I hold on tighter to the sorrow,
that’s become all I know anymore
you swore it couldn’t work
wouldn’t work
but I thought
if it doesn’t work
I’ll make it work
and I tried
but effort unrequited
turns to regret
of what could’ve been
but never was
and all I wanted was love
but I was just never enough
for you, was I?
and everything I did
I did it in vain
and I did it for you.
but you just threw in it my face
and you became the one thing
I could never replace,
and I could never just let go
even when I watch you turn loose
of the pieces of me,
in all the places I never wanted to go
and I hope you know,
I’d still do anything for you.
for what it’s worth.
