Little Boy Disturbed Poem by Carrie Simpson

Little Boy Disturbed

One day in the pleasant city
Littered only with beauty and lilies
A quiet man walking in a parking lot
Was suddenly bereted with gunshots

The scene was gory
No one knew the gunman’s story
Just another violent act
To stop another life in its tracks

But still you haven’t heard the worst part
About this one kid playing alone in the park
He had seen everything, for he was just across the street
He watched in horror as the man fell from his feet

In such detail, he sees the blood splatter
He’s so focused right now, nothing else matters
Unable to erase the image from his brain
Little does he know that one day he’ll go insane

His perfect world shattered
On his memory lay a stain
Five seconds of terror
Equaling a lifetime of pain

So pray for the boy
That he live his life through
And praise God because remember
It could’ve easily been you.
