Little Ballerina Poem by Priya Patel

Little Ballerina

'Look mommy, look at me'

She twirls around, giggling

as her bright pink skirt flies

around her waist

She has pink and white flowers

in her golden brown hair;

a halo for the angel that she is

With blue eyes sparkling,

she dances around the store;

twirling on her tiptoes

like a little ballerina

'Mommy, look at me, I can fly'

she sings into the air

as she floats across the room

Her mother finally looks up,

and watches her dance,

hears her laughter bubbling

like an endless brook

She scoops up

her ballerina girl in the circle of her arms

and swings her into the air,

around and around they go

Laughing and giggling,

they fall down in a heap,

faces flushed and eyes aglow

I couldn't have imagined

a more beautiful sight

this Monday morning
