Limbo Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Limbo

Limbo

The dean called
A friendly call; to a friend
To a professor; an activist
“She is our best, sharpest”
And almost cried
As do the clouds; when rich with tear, and in cold
“But universities don’t accept her”

Waves settled
Cables died
Silence
Death was everywhere
All over
There was nothing
But pain
Pain of failure
The best student is rejected
No chance to study further
With no father and single mother
They could not afford tuition
(International)
Government rejected to pay
File has faced backlog
Meaning not settled
“They are in Limbo”
This Nigerian smart girl
Was in limbo
As have been for long time
The non-status and Métis
And the trades people and the rulers
They see the education as business)
And the young boy who saw no future
Joined drug dealers, criminals, murderers)
Do those in power have a dictionary?
Look at limbo!
Don Dippo did
So have we
Limbo
