Like Those Of Old Poem by Buti Roos

Like Those Of Old

Why do we act like we own the world?
Like the devil is our friend...
Why do we act like we made the Heavens?
Like it is the work of our hands...
Why do we act like we asked for the river-flows?
Like we commanded God to send down rain adn snow...
Why do we act like we toiled and laboured for the mountains?
Like we know its sweats and its pains...
Why do we act like we marked the bounderies of the waves of the oceans?
Like we own a certain portion...
Why?

Why can't we be like those of old,
Who wore torn clothes
But had their brains covered with snow?
Those who took rebuke as rebuke,
And love like a guideline book -
Yes... why can't we be like those of old?
Those who knew that all things were created,
Then afterwards selected
And given to those who feel rejected.
Those who lived together as one - in peace...
Those who knew no hate but resided in love,
Again i ask - why can't we be like those of old?

Far far away
Far back in the past
They knew that they had to fear God...
Far far away
Far back in the past
They lived under law...
Those of old believed so much in the One above
The master of Love
But what we see now is a different story...
We are our own gods and we have fear for nothing,
We owe no respect to no-one and no-thing
Why can't we be like those of old i ask?

The moon and the stars,
Pluto and planet Mars
They all know that they are nobodys God
If only they could speak
They would say ``Hush, peace``

LIKE THOSE OF OLD...

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is one that made me aware of how highly we consider ourselves, we are a pride-filled generation that cant define theSe two words: RESPECT AND HUMBLENESS / OBEDIENCE.
The poem is clear and i am sure all of us understood
