Lifeboat Passing By Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Lifeboat Passing By

Miscellaneous soundings
welcome me
in my new surroundings
bleakness is all I see
upon the lonely churning sea
where people come and go
and hardly take time to see
and turn away from others
and let them be

Upon a lifeboat passing
I caught her frightened glance
and it stayed with me
wondered if it was happenstance
this fear she let me see
I felt she was captive
and in my heart meant to set her free
but it was not to be

In that moment pondering her fate
I forgot my own misery
I wonder what she saw
in my eyes
when she glanced at me
Nobody says
I've lost site of what I'm supposed to be
but I feel bound to nothingness
and only dream of Free

As the waves close in upon me
I take a breath and dive under
because they'll only crash upon me
and drive me asunder
when I float to the surface
I see only darkness and its thunder
and thing of one Down Under
she said...you miss me?
You miss me?
What do you mean by that?

As if I was something to be turned from

as I sink that thought weighs upon me
and won't let me be
trying to stay afloat at sea
