Life’s Not All Roses

We pray in Christ for things to come
We want them then and there
We think it strange and often dumb
When still the cupboard’s bare

Silver and gold should now be ours
The choice of Heaven’s wealth
Great miracles, fantastic power
Blessings of perfect health

Not always will we prosper here
Christ never said we should
But who His name now learn to fear
God tells one day we would

A banker deals in stocks and shares
Not God, as some believe
Who think in Christ, all wealth is theirs –Lk.15: 12
May soon begin to grieve

We’re here to work, the world to tell –Gen.3: 19
To love and open eyes
Teach now in Christ the truth of hell
Make friend and foe God wise

Through Christ, to show them right from wrong
God’s way to understand
Life’s desert journey’s hard and long
Before the Promised Land

The good, on earth don’t always reign
Nor righteous people win
No evil seems to toil in vain
But prosper through its sin

Yet Jesus knows our every need
His eyes see far and wide
He knows God’s wheat, the devil’s weed
And every thought inside…
