Life Poem by Jean Renwick

Life

I feel despair descend upon me like the black cloak of darkness.
Oh! The rage, helplessness; grief that brings pain and emptiness.
It settles deep inside and expands and grows to be all consuming.
I look but do not see,
Listen but do not hear;
I crave but cannot grasp,
Yearn but cannot feel.
As I wander through this twilight existence
Does no one notice –
Those who profess to care.

While I am of myself unaware, my sensitivity to the interactions
between others scares me.
Existing in a nether world, I am at once both requiring
and frightened of the intimacies I see around me.
Will someone please bring me back.
I need someone to bring me back.
