Let Go Of The Day Poem by Sonny Rainshine

Let Go Of The Day

Hey! Remember that weary old English teacher,
yes, the one with the sad eyes
that seemed to focus in on you expectantly
as you sat in the back row,
trying not to attract attention?
You, know, the one who mumbled something
about Carpe Diem.
Seize the Day! she shrieked,
or he.

And remember that time
you did indeed reach out and lasso in
the moment. That time you
saved the day by catching the touch-down pass
or were elected homecoming queen?
The day you found your love
and lost it the next day?

The hard part, isn’t it,
is the letting go of the day.
If we cling to the day and never let it go,
how can we seize and savor
the next, and the next?
