हिंदी रूपांतरण रजनीश मंगा द्वारा
जीवन क्या है जीवन जिसमे रहे काम और केवल काम.
हमें भान भी हो न सके यह धरती है कितनी अभिराम.
किसी वृक्ष की छाया में बैठें, इतनी फुरसत मिल न सकी,
भेड़ों गायों के रेवड़ को भी, तकने की हसरत खिल न सकीं.
वनप्रांतर में आये गये पर, वन की सुंदरता न लिपा सके,
चालाक गिलहरी जहां तृणों में, अपने मेवों को छिपा सके.
वक़्त कहाँ है देख सकें, जो दरिया की चमकती धारा है,
या हुआ अलौकिक निशा समय नभ में इक-इक तारा है.
सुन्दर बाला के नयनों के सब बाण अकारथ चले गये,
हम उसके पैरों की झांझर, न नृत्य कला से छले गये.
इतनी फुरसत कहां कि देखें उसके मुख की आकृतियां,
फूटेगी जिनसे मुसकाने, नयनों से झरेंगी फुलझड़ियाँ.
निर्धन है वह जीवन जिसमे रहे काम और केवल काम,
हमें भान भी हो न सके यह धरती है कितनी अभिराम.
What is this life, if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows,
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Stream full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes begane.
A poor life this, if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
