Le Sentier, Je Sui Poem by Kezziah Hopkins

Le Sentier, Je Sui

I searched and I searched for the
Magic words, and they ran in my
Mind like the stream that somehow,
Stumbling, falling, falls forward, falls
Through the cement and breaks through
Into beauty. 'Le Sentier, je sui-'
What I said was what I thought
I meant, but what I really meant was
Hidden far beneath the surface, so far
That I'd quite forgotten where it was.
'Le Sentier, je sui-' how I felt
Was worse than how I'd ever dreamed
I'd feel about it-my emotions
Tricked me, and my faithless eyes
Spilled over once again. They spilled
Into your waterfall and brought it crashing
Down on you. What could I say?
'Le Sentier, je sui-' the words mean
Everything and nothing, like the flood of
Never-spoken words that rages on and
Separates us from the place we want
To be. 'Le Sentier, je sui-' I'm sorry
That I didn't understand. 'Le Sentier,
Je sui-' please, don't give up.
