-late Freight- Poem by Nika McGuin

-late Freight-

'Oh no, I'll be late! ' you thought
so, you raced through the rain
'till you were low on gas, alas
you had to make a rushed pit-stop
only to discover you were low on cash!

$9.00 to your name, and it only got you
a half tank of gas, you sped onwards though
going 60 in a 50mph speed zone, and you made it.
your hair was damp, your stomach running on empty
and guess what? You arrived early! ! !

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

This is a clever and tightly wound-up poem of EVERYDAY LIFE. The odds are against you, not the big odds, but a lot of small ones. But despite frustrations you pull through with the surprise of being early. The situation was not AS BAD as you thought. That's the message of the poem. It's a precisely detailed slice of life. And very energetically written!
