Late Poem by Percy Dovetonsils

Who says Death is ugly?
I want to know
because
I see Him near me
and He
looks beautiful.

He stands beside me
promising
he'll make life
go
so-o-o
slow - ly

that I'll never
worry
or hurry up
again.

I think that Death
may be a friend.
He says (with silence)
that he'll bring all
to an end.

He'll take me
and my worries
round the bend.

And
how can that be bad?

Someday
perhaps
He'll take me
silently to sleep

and I'll no longer
pray
my soul to keep.

Death
I give myself to you.
I won't resist you
when you come.

You're not an enemy
of mine.
All you want
is all I am
when I
no longer
am
in time.
