I touched death
today
for a moment
as a leaf
fluttered
to its last resting place
on the forest floor
and
its sadness
gripped
my throat
and stayed my footsteps
as I mourned its passing
knowing
it would
never
again
dance
green
to the tune
of a mischievous breeze.
