Last Night Poem by Cecil (cj) Krieger

Last Night

The light has gone
From the night sky
While I watch
The falling rain
Dancing haphazardly
Cleaning the dirt
Off of my window pane

It is a warm rain
That chases away
The chilly winter wind
A warm rain
Causing smoke to rise
From the melting snow

These are the nights
My body aches
As I tumble and turn
In my bed
And sleep cannot find
A place of rest

These are nights
My ghosts walk about
Muttering in sentences
Without meaning
And speaking names
I can no longer recall

So I will lie here
Until the rain stops
Or the sun rises
Or my sleep goes on
Into eternity
And I can be at peace
