Last Memories Poem by Claudia Nkhata

Last Memories

We did everything to have ever thought it could end this way
How stupid of me to have thought everything was okay

Everything couples in love do
None of it helped too

From miles away I could feel the love
It flew to me all the way like a dove

The memory I still hold dearly
I recall the look in your eyes at the airport clearly

For a moment I knew that was goodbye, welcome back love…or is it?
For three days we spent the days side by side
And when darkness fell we lay in each other's arms in bed chest to chest

The body sensed the distance between yours and mine
The man who loves me so withholds his tender kiss
When we went away together I thought this was it
Maybe we will never split…Perhaps not
Maybe we'll start all over again and re-unite

Oh I remember that candle lit dinner
When you held my hand and said ‘I have something to tell you'
My heart imagined what you were to say…

Then you said the exact opposite
What a memory for a last
‘I'm sorry I feel for you no longer' you said…it's over!

And I smiled, yes I smiled
…and looked into your eyes intensely
Your eyes sealed it all
You meant every word…its O.V.E.R every word
What a memory for a last
