Lantern Festival Poem by Cigeng Zhang

Lantern Festival

Rating: 4.5

Red lanterns
Shine in the sky
The moon smiles
So many tiny new stars
Drift out of the night
Really busy!
Amber eyes
Warm and sweet
Make a wish, please
At the special night
Make a wish, please
What’s the best wish?
Let the real spring
Come, come, quickly
Come, the real spring
Come, the vernal light

What an amazing scene you create: the red lanterns against the dark night sky with the moon's while light shining over them. Just that single image would have made this poem memorable. But you bring out the emotions of the moment with such urgency, breatthlessly encouraging the full spring to come and claim the time for itself. And now your summons to spring has summoned ours on the other side of the world. This is a memorable lyric poem.
