La fenêtre de la maison paternelle


Autour du toit qui nous vit naître
Un pampre étalait ses rameaux,
Ses grains dorés, vers la fenêtre,
Attiraient les petits oiseaux.

Ma mère, étendant sa main blanche,
Rapprochait les grappes de miel,
Et les enfants suçaient la branche,
Qu'ils rendaient aux oiseaux du ciel.

L'oiseau n'est plus, la mère est morte ;
Le vieux cep languit jaunissant,
L'herbe d'hiver croît sur la porte,
Et moi je pleure en y pensant.

C'est pourquoi la vigne enlacée
Aux mémoires de mon berceau,
Porte à mon âme une pensée,
Et doit ramper sur mon tombeau.
