L.I.B.* Poem by Winston T. Gylles

L.I.B.*

She sends me
and verily, I had not looked for it
I'm not extremely fond of being sent
the surrender of a moment
when galaxies and microbes collide
so utterly terrifying

Yet she sends me
and honestly, it all happened unawares
below all my superlative defenses
as a single seismic shudder, a clap
of raw sentiment, making me
to my own self look utterly ridiculous

My most humble apologies
I blubber uncontrollably

Nevertheless, she's sent me
away and there is nothing to be done
but get on with it -
old fool sent on a fool's errand
turning over cold, hard, igneous rock
looking for a song's warmth.

*Life is beautiful
