Kohler's Chimp Poem by M.J. Lemon

Kohler's Chimp

Rating: 5.0

What's just out of reach
is what I want most

With longer arms
or thinner hands
or persistent charms that
make divisible
all tasks otherwise
completely derisible

Might just help me
reach what I want most

If no one looks all
stammers then a crawl
might the effort befall
until, until just that
moment of contact fleeting
graces objective retreating...

For just that instant that second
that is what I want most

Just like a symphony that
black forest or banana
cake rains upon the tongue the
euphony of touch
is the aria the refrain
that finishes my pain

What's just out of reach
is what I want most

So intrigued with this write. That most attractive, desirable something that's simply just out of reach. At first I was thinking about monkeys and their antics stealing food but then I realized how apt this poem also is for human nature.

Thank you so much, Simone. And I think that's exactly the observation that Kohler made about human nature, after observing his chimps for so long.
