Knighthood Dashed Poem by Annia Rosa

Knighthood Dashed

Sometimes I want to ride with the knights,
To pull the sword from its sheath in battle,
To fight and win and uphold the knights' code,
To ride horseback through the country, armored.

I want to shoot arrows from my crossbow
At them, our unsuspecting enemies.
I want to serve His Majesty the king,
Win tournaments and fight in the melee.

I want to train with Knights of Camelot,
Slay dragons with Prince Arthur Pendragon,
And seek guidance from the wizard Merlin.

I wish to feast and drink and laugh and fight,
To train and protect and keep hope in sight.
I wish to be knighted and maybe crowned
As The First Knight and Queen of Albion.

I wish to live in a ancient castle
With a relic or two, and my kingdom
Would behold me, with honor and with grace.

But I have no grace nor hints of honor.
I have no strength or stomach for this dream.
Brave as a pigeon, and plastic as well—
I would never fit in, it seems.
