Kitty Kiernan Poem by Francis Duggan

Kitty Kiernan

A sniper's bullet deprived her of the great love of her life
Kitty Kiernan who was to become Michael Collins wife
She later on married raised a family
Her name does live on in Irish history
The life story of Kitty is a story often told
By all acoounts quite beautiful to behold
'Tis said that Patrick Colum penned his great poem to her 'She Moved Through The Fair'
Which has become a memorable song to a beautiful air
Before falling in love with Collins Harry Boland was her man
But their love did not last for a lengthy time span
Between former friends Boland and Collins this caused a divide
In Ireland's Civil war both of them tragically died,
In her love affairs with Boland and Collins the seeds of legend were grown
And the story of her life in Ireland well known.
