King Cotton Poem by Larry Porter

King Cotton

Don't let that Sun burn you down
Keep you back bent to the ground
You boy put your back into it boy!
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Don't look that boss in the eye
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
He might see the doubt ands the fear
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Holler calls out a song
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Heard a slave name Martin has stood up
There's talk of freedom I hear
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
They say it's about civil rights
I never heard that word before
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
PUT your back into it boy!
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
But there's no talk of freedom hear
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Swing that hoe high and low
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
There's many more rowes today
200 field hands at work
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
I wonder what freedom feels like
I'll dream about that tonight
Chop that cotton chop that cotton
Chop that cotton chop that cotton chop that cotton chop that cotton.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is my first attempt at creative expression, I'm very uneducated man so I know my soul my be hard to understand
This poem is about oppression, not just chopping cotton this applies to any oppressed groups and individuals.
If it's Warren to you I hope you can't help but feel something
I of course do plan to come back and try to make it understandably
I don't know if my work has a place at all
