Oh heaven I implore you
With all the strength and faith I can muster
Please let me convey just one word
One lone thought, one simple verb
Kevin
As I lie here staring at all of these loving faces
My perception can not be any clearer
Every detail, every component,
Every singular second of that tumultuous minute
Is as clear to me today as the moment it happened
It was a warm and pleasant autumn day
I was running east on Eastern Parkway
I noticed him from my peripheral
Attempting to humor him
I pretended not to see him
As I started to turn I felt the first of many
Hot, piercing projectiles
Ripping through my body
I opened my eyes to your crying faces
Comforting me with tears of sorrow
I tried repeatedly to tell you
A couple of you even repeated his name
Kevin
With nothing but time to contemplate
I have analyzed every twist and turn
Determined to establish some form of plausible reason
Oh God, could it be
Was it the money Daddy left me
I swear I was going to split it down the middle
That is why he left it to me
So that I could do right by his wishes
I’m trying to tell you
Trying to call out his name
Look at him over there
Look into his eyes
The same ones I looked into
As he stood over me with malice in his heart
Why did you bring him hear
I wasn’t asking for him
I was trying to tell you
Now he’s standing over me
Crying louder then anyone else
Telling me how much he loves me
Comforting my wife and my children
And for what
Fifty percent of forty- five hundred dollars
Maybe in time you all will figure it out
Put all of the pieces together
Why do you think he wasn’t here initially
Why do I keep trying to pronounce his name
Hey daddy wait for me
I’m coming with yo--
