Karnataka Rajyotsava Poem by Vikas Pratap Singh

On 1st Nov.1956, born an Indian state was
Land of Kannadigas, Tuluvas, Konkanis, Kodavas
Renamed ‘Karnataka’ 17 years later
Sacred motherland, nothing else matters

‘Karu nadu’ gives Karnataka its name
Province of dense forests and dashing rains
Krishna, Cauvery as basic life force
Carnatic music here only got its source

Karnataka is, overall, India miniature
Home of diverse flora-fauna, all kinds of creatures
Union of all thoughts, beliefs, and castes
We all love its culture, heritage and arts

Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas, and Cholas it’s sire
Wodeyar dynasty and Vijayanagara empire
All selflessly developed it with grace
The state brims with imprints timely embraced

Festivities Mysore Dasara, Ganesh Chaturthi, Ramzan
Kannada, Tulu, Urdu people speak with elan
Varied geography, rich history twinkles
Weather ever-pleasant, whole year rain-god giggles

Nature’s phenomena spans our attention
Breathtaking waterfalls need no special mention
Almost everything makes for tourist places
Be it ancient ruins, lush gardens, lavish palaces

Nurtured with Adi Shankara and Bahubali’s blessings
Girish Karnad, Vishnu Vardhan and Rajkumar's acting
Yakshagana, Mysore Pak are famous celebrities here
It’s all joy and happiness and no fear

May it prosper as it always has!
Karnataka is our nation’s artistic dress
Today as we celebrate Rajyotsava fully thronged
I bow down before you...
