Just In Case Poem by Matt Render

Just In Case

I never lock my door anymore
In case you change your mind
I always make an extra plate
In case you come to dine
I leave a light on just in case
You decide to show your face
With an extra pillow by my head
In case you come back to this bed

And as I sit silently
Placed right beside me
Is a cup of tea
With fresh mint leaves
And a dollop of honey
Just the way you used to drink it
When you would be coming in from the cold
After those long night walks
In the dead of winter
You'd show up shivering
At my doorstep.
So when you decide to
In case you ever do
Everything is right here
Prepared just for you.
