Just Another Rose Poem by Holly Jamestone

Just Another Rose

You gently slipped into my heart
The way stocking feet grace a hardwood floor
And you brushed my hair back from my face
To study who I really was

Each chapter was one to savor you said
And you zealously memorized each page of me
And placed your bookmark at your favorites
Making mental notes of who I was to you

You said you knew me like the back of your hand
And I delighted in the novelty of our love
Until the day that the rains stalled overhead
And the bud fell off the rose

You walked away from our garden
Your shoulders slumped and your back to me
As a muddy bookmark stuck to your shoe
And your footprints were swallowed by the rain

You slipped off the ledge of my life
The way white knuckles relent on a skyscraper’s edge
But I brushed my hair back from my face
And waited for another rose to bloom
