Just A Dream. Poem by Lauren Harper

Just A Dream.

A laugh that kills.
A smile that shreds.
The words of death.
The vile heart.
The torturous mind.
One look sends scratches of fury down my spine.
Slowly thoughts blur my mind.
A shined object captures my eye.
Swiftly replacing the pen with my blade I mentally prepare where it would meet.
Maybe not the kind of greeting she'd hoped, only what was needed to be received.
Hatred courses through my veins as I slash through her jugular.
Blood would ooze from her lifeless body.
Slashing still her neck would lull to the floor.
Only then would the task be done.
Not one more time would I hear her obnoxious laugh.
Not one more moment would I hear her pitiful cry.
Not one more time would I hear her agitating voice.
No more would she be.
The next thing I know I hear a soft beep.
Then again, but louder.
Then another growing in ferocity with each echo.
Opening my eyes I realize it was not but a dream.
A wish that will only be known in my dreams.
But you must know that I cannot harm one hair on her head.
Her precious little head.
For the girl that they know,
And the girl that I know,
Are two entirely different people.
Only if they'd look closer,
Then maybe they'd see the things that I see.
