Judy - Liza - Jim Poem by Jim Boone

Judy - Liza - Jim

A kid in a small town, in the ‘middle of the most’
With a yen for Hollywood intervention hums/sings
“If happy little bluebirds fly, beyond the rainbow
why, oh why can’t I? ” Good question kid! !

Mainly it has to do with the fact that you’re
A queer little bird yourself, and a lot to do
With real estate: Location, location, location:

A ‘location’ in time and awareness
A ‘location’ in ability to be alibi free
A ‘location’ that’s a ‘moveable feast’

“Come Saturday morning, I’m going away with my friends”
And that’s what these marching songs are about
‘Going Away’ until angst is gone or controllable.

There’s a longing in Judy/Liza music
That serenades a longing in anyone like me
And I became ‘performance’ oriented
By watching ‘master class’ performances
By Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli
While believing that I’m okay and good to go
Down a ‘yellow brick road’ in search of
Homosexual understanding and survival
Because that’s who and what I Am.

“I love the old folks at home, ” but gotta leave em

“Life is a cabaret ole chum: Come to the Cabaret”
Come taste the Life, Come hear “Yes you can”
Come blow my mind, start celebrating
Right this way, now that way, over here
Your arena’s waiting and awaiting
Every gay kid in every city and small town. 2011
