Jessica Died Yesterday Poem by Seairra Kyger

Jessica Died Yesterday

Every star
Now floats by
I lay on grass
Wonder why
One time

Every word spilled
Every note cried
Was not worth this
All the blood
Spilled onto tile

Dressed in black
Midnight darkness
I blend in
With everybody
Are we all the same

We all stand
Like soldiers
In a case
One ultimate fate
For which we're made

One last request
Before you go
When you get there
Would you
Let me know

Why should we stay
Somewhere better I know exists
I'd take you there
With these scars upon my wrists
Because these rubber bands
All bend and break
They cannot save us
From what's engraved

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The world is conforming and those who don't want to be the same notice this. The odd kids and the sad kids don't see how they will fall in line with everyone else. They know that there must be somewhere better then a world full of the same person, just with a new face. But we can not run from our own ultimate fate

This is very well-written. Like all good poems it takes the reader out of his or her comfort zone. The final three lines are outstanding.
