Jayme Biendl (In Memorial) Should Not Have Been

Serial rapist suspected, strangling a woman, that’s not too hard,
But when you realize the incident occurred behind prison bars?
This guy once doused a woman with gasoline setting her on fire,
Byron Scherf, in medium security reformatory, nothing higher?

Jayme Biendl, a female guard, done in by a microphone cord,
The death of this 34 year old by an inmate what was he board?
Even more disturbing is that she was in an area with him alone,
Serving life w/o parole for rape so wouldn’t this guy be prone?

Given the opportunity, small crack in the door, one more chance,
He’s already proven countless times before a failure at romance,
Monroe Correctional Complex just 30 miles northeast of Seattle,
A guy with his criminal record one on one with a man is a battle,

So, how in the heck did this convict get to be alone with Jayme,
All the talk about guards being out numbered just explain to me,
Set one woman on fire, raped another, he’s in minimum security?
Okay ah is this prison run by incompetence or those on disability?

Byron told officials he was trying to escape but changed his mind,
However, in the process he decided to leave a dead body behind?
Officer Biendl’s body was found fully clothed over an hour later,
60 minutes had passed before discovery, could she be any safer?

Apparently not and that is why to her superiors she complained,
9 year department veteran, who is in charge, what is his name?
The warden himself was an escapee from the criminally insane?
Only guard in the chapel, no one checked on her, who to blame?

Once again we know the story of staff reductions via budget cuts,
Female guard alone, all male prison, who do we kick in the butt?
Prisons, full of people who’ve committed crimes as bad or worse,
Excuses, excuses, good girl, bad boy, neither is this time the first.

Should they not have learned from other facilities where this crime,
Was played out in the same scenario only a different place and time,
After the first sexual assault charge he was paroled in the year 1993,
Raped again in 1997, life in prison parole was now an impossibility.

This second incident the 37 year was threatened for her and her kid,
He would kill them both if she told but bravery took hold & she did,
His parole violations, 'was in substantial compliance' said the state,
By claiming Scherf‘s possession of pornography did not equal rape.

Let us make one thing clear, a violation is a violation is it not?
115 degrees in the shade in Las Vegas, is still pretty damn hot,
A model, 'serving his incarceration in an acceptable fashion, '
Good conduct privileges so he’s not a murder just an assassin.

In addition to the standard, officials request an outside review,
Stop! No need to waste that money, male on female do not do,
Okay, so incompetence is not the word it’s just plain old dumb,
For donations any Key Bank, “Jayme Biendl Memorial Fund.”
