James Hogg Poem by Francis Duggan

James Hogg

The Ettrick Shepherd his nickname
And he was one who knew great fame
Far more than a man of rhyme
His poems have stood the test of time,
With words James Hogg he had a way
Poets are born not made they say
As Scottish poets Burns and Scott perhaps more great
Yet him we too should celebrate,
A generous soul or so 'twould seem
And as a poet held in high esteem
And though the breath of life from him long gone
James Hogg in his poetry lives on
And from my school-days 'A Boy's Song' i do recall
Perhaps his greatest poem of all.
