Jaded Poem by Jessica Holt

Jaded

Rating: 4.5

When did I get so jaded?
When was the point where
My young innocence faded?
That’s life honey that’s life

My dad used to tell me
At five after my aunt
Stood me up to go see
One of her boyfriends

Or maybe it was the first
Crisis as a teenager
Nobody seems to care
But for you the pain is major

My first sexual experience
Only to learn his love was not real
Such high expectations
And it wasn’t that big of a deal

The five year relationship that
You think will last forever
Comes crumbling apart
Happily ever after… Never

Sequences of heartbreak
Lies and disappointments
Makes hardness hard to shake
It’s life that makes you this way

But when I saw a little girl
Crying from first time disappointment
Then same scenario began to unfurl
That’s life honey that’s life

I cried when I heard her mother repeat this to her over and over again.

perhaps the dull sting of acceptance that life sucks is the worse sting of all.
