Jack-O-Lantern Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Jack-O-Lantern

Rating: 5.0

A blanket of night sparkle forms...
Melting as the day warms
Orange pumpkins have rounded
With their beauty…we are astounded

The essence of vines and leaves
Is now lifeless… but no one grieves
Robustly remaining… the pumpkins beam
Vividly outstanding…enhancing the scene

Ripened to firmness…no longer immature
Excited with anticipation…feeling sure
Trusting… sensing that joy will spread
Ready for an adventure in the days ahead

Illuminated faces with flame inside
Bring smiles to travelers going by
Creative carvers enjoy with pride
As multicolored leaves fall from high

Halloween/Samhain(Celtic) is my favorite holiday and I usually can't wait to see the farmers' fields dotted with ripe pumpkins. You capture the image and the mood beautifully.Thank you for this poem-a ten for you.
