It Wasn'T My Choice Poem by shirley hedrick

It Wasn'T My Choice

when I came into this world It wasn; t my choice
It was very hard living with the dad I had
He would beat my mother and hit us kids
He Never once gave us a hug a kiss or said I love you
He never took us out to eat or to the park where we could play

We did our chores and we did them well
But that wasn; t good enough, He was never proud of us
Our mother was a wonderful lady, She stood beside us
Mother worked hard and did her best to take care of us
Not only was she my mother, but my best friend

When our dad wasn; t working, He spent his time at the bar
Buying drinks and hanging all over the women
My brother was gonna shoot him, I cried shoot him shoot
But my sister begged him not to
I couldn't wait to get out of that house
I droped out of school, got married, and started a family of my own
It wasn't my choice to come into this world
And have to live the way we did

yeah it's not our choice, but yet we must live with it.
