It Wasn'T Like This Always Poem by Natalie Franciskovich

It Wasn'T Like This Always

she kicked back her feet
she sighed a deep sigh
rubbing her temples
she looked to the sky
she breathed a shallow breath
coated in annoyance
looked me in the eyes
as if my crime was flagrant
she opened her mouth
but stopped short of words
she collected herself
this look was her standard
her age lines danced
colliding against each other
this face was of affliction
this face was my mothers
her Triangularis muscle tight
from years of over work
squeezed into a perpetual frown
that no longer took effort
she creased her forehead
although barely discernible
but i recognized her look
settled past me, doubtful
she squinted her eyes
but no crows feet were present
dependent on Zyogmatic muscles
and smile, she didn't
she worked her Platysma
further descending her lips
pursing her Orbicularis Oris
evidence of her hardships
employing her Corrugator Supercilii
she furrowed her brow
her dynamic wrinkles her messenger
of things she wouldn't allow
she depressed her lower lip
using her Mentalis
her face just a billboard
for women to be cautious
she crinkled her lids
working her Orbicularis Oculi
finally resting her gaze on me
her face never once belied
she uttered my name
dipped in slight disgust
pointed out my age and scoffed
'hmph...love.'
