It's Too Much Poem by Claude H Oliver II

It's Too Much

Rating: 5.0

You go by many names
Each prayed to loyally
Prayers for peace
Prayers for life and healing
Asking for your love
Thy will be done
God bless you
Allah be praised
Yahweh is one

Prayers for our neighbors, country and friends
Prayers for rain - prayers for sun
Prayers for flood deliverance
Prayers for drought deliverance
Prayers for victories over our chosen enemies
Those who see another way

Were you to bring us together?
Was that your expressed intent
Or were you created - a figment
Of divided imagination

To embrace you separates me
From humanity - divides me from family
Fences off my neighbor
How can I be in but not of
When of is where I hail from?

Embracing you costs much
Tithes, family, friends and neighbors
Freedom to love constrained
By custom masquerading as faith
Maybe we created you
You - absent till us
No proof of or not
Common sense - a fatality
Superstition - becomes reality
Saints versus sinners
Saved versus unsaved

To be one with all, I must divide from you.
